I Like to Dance All Night

In case you had forgotten...just wanted to send out a friendly reminder that the Miike Snow / Jack Peñate show is coming up tomorrow (Friday, September 23) at the Empty Bottle. I've been listening to Jack's latest album for the past week (pretty heavily I must admit) and I've fallen even more in love with it. Each song is as fun as the next and, as I mentioned in my last post about this show, the beats are definitely danceable. People...it's only $12, which I consider a steal. Let me advise you that it would be a great way to start off the weekend.

If you need yet another reason to stop by the show....Jack is pretty stinkin' adorable too!

Song of the Day

Eerie music. Cute lyrics. Getting me through these long hours at work.

It's good...it's really good

Frightened Rabbit has a slightly familiar sound that I just can't place. Scott Hutchinson's voice is somewhat reminiscent of Counting Crow's great, Adam Duritz, and their music is soft and dreamy much like Death Cab for Cutie, but I'm not quite sure that's it. Either way, this band has an amazing emo-indie rock vibe going for them (even if they are a masterful amalgamation of a number of great bands...in my opinion). Their new album is set to drop in March 2010, but until then you can chew on their 2008 release, The Midnight Organ Fight, or its' live album counterpart, "Quietly Now! Midnight Organ Fight Live at The Captain's Rest". Delicious!

The 25th night of September

I can't think of a better place to be than the Empty Bottle. Jack Peñate has a great 70's disco pop vibe going for him and I can't imagine that his live show would be anything less than a raging dance party. Can't wait!

Say Hi... Yes, please!

Looking a bit further down the road (in hopes of great live music to come) I have hunted down a live show in October that is sure to be delightful. Say Hi just happens to be opening for David Bazan (known as the frontman phenomenom of Pedro the Lion) later next month. It's no secret that Eric Elbogen's soft sounds have been playing on my iPod for quite a few months now, but hosting both of these creative (solo) acts at one fantastic venue is surely a recipe for success. A recent Twitter post from Eric pretty much summed up the hilarity that will likely ensue that evening...

"Off to Bazan rehearsal soon. We haven't discussed it yet, but I'm pretty sure our main objective is to out-beard the Fleet Foxes."

The show is $15. Go and enjoy!

Say Hi (Opening for David Bazan)
Friday, October 23rd
Schubas Tavern - 3159 N. Southport Ave.

Something new to love...

Just when I was beginning to grow tired of my usual mix I was tipped off (thanks lil' G!) to my new favorite off-beat group. Netherfriends hail from Chicago and better yet, they have a rockin' show coming up at Schubas on September 30th at 9:00pm. What better reason to throw a party/play a live show then in celebration of a new album release? Go check it out...see you there!

Download it: "Oh-Hi-Oh" / "Friends with Lofts" (Or you can follow my lead and download the entire Calling You Out EP...it's definitely worth it!)

Happiness is...

"a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh

just stay there
cause i'll be comin' over
and while our bloods still young
it's so young
it runs
and we won't stop til it's over
won't stop to surrender"

Hello Fall!

It's true. It's only September 1st and already I feel as if the summer is gone for good. Along with the warm weather, sundresses, and beach days goes the outdoor summer festivals/shows as well. I'll save my pouting for those who know me best, but in order to get through this tough transition period I thought I would step up my game by suggesting a few great (indoor) concerts that are set to hit Chicago. They are all "must-see"...

September 12 - Regina Spektor @ Chicago Theater
September 26 - Built to Spill @ The Vic
October 8 - The Decemberists @ The Riviera
October 16 - Gossip @ Metro ---or--- Rhett Miller @ Park West
October 23 - Say Anything @ The Vic
October 25 - The Raveonettes@ Metro

A few things I am looking forward to though...sweaters, football (college & pro), the leaves changing color, closing all of the windows in my apartment, snuggling up in my favorite blanket. Ok...so maybe the fall isn't so bad.
